Proctor Plaques

In the spring of 1996 a half-block section of sidewalk was replaced at the southwest corner of North 26th and Proctor in Tacoma. The Proctor Business Association decided to include historical plaques in the project. Some of these plaques describe history of the neighborhood. Others point out some of the businesses that occupied the nearby buildings. Just for fun there are also bronze child sized footprints installed in a hopscotch pattern and a line of doggie footprints.

The Marush Building at the southeast corner of North 26th and Proctor was remodeled in 2005. Built in 1909, this is the oldest surviving business building in the Proctor District. Four plaques describing its past were installed in the existing sidewalk in front. The Marush family, Mr. Wilmont Ragsdale and Rainier Pacific Bank sponsored the installation.
